Henrietta Lacks


       My name is Henrietta Lacks. I was a mother of 5 and had a wonderful husband, David lacks. I am well know for my self replicating cells, known as the HeLa cells. These were cultivated from my body without mine or my family's direct consent. My cells have been used worldwide to study all sorts of diseases and the best ways of treating them. I died at the age of 31 on October 4th, 1951. My cause of death was cervical cancer which was supposedly caught at stage one but due to the time period not many doctors knew how to treat this. It was also misdiagnosed when found, this was not discovered until 20 years after my death. The cancer I had was actually a much more rapidly growing type of cervical cancer.

My name is Lawerence Lacks. I’m the oldest child of the Henrietta Lacks. I remember a lot about my mother because I was there with her for all that long time even through her illness. I have made some mistakes in my life and experienced a lot too, for example I went to the war. But I always cared about my family, I’m always gonna be there for my family. When I lost my mother, it was really hard to me. Remember her is really hard to me. However, I have a lot of siblings that I still take care of. I also have a wife. Sonny Lacks

I'm Sonny Lacks, son of Henrietta Lacks. My mother's cells have been used for research in Hopkins. She died because of cancer, left father, me and other siblings very early. However, Hopkins didn't acknowledge any family member about their continuing research, which was using my mother's cells.    I never trusted Hopkins, "Back then they did things, especially to black folks.
