Lawerence Lacks
My name is Lawerence Lacks. I’m the oldest child of the Henrietta Lacks. I remember a lot about my mother because I was there with her for all that long time even through her illness. I have made some mistakes in my life and experienced a lot too, for example I went to the war. But I always cared about my family, I’m always gonna be there for my family. When I lost my mother, it was really hard to me. Remember her is really hard to me. However, I have a lot of siblings that I still take care of. I also have a wife. I am not sire if I want my mother’s story to be a world wide because I don’t understand much about science in general but I believe that there is an importance for sharing.
8) "Wouldn’t you want to share the story of my mother? It would help to prevent the mistakes like this in the future. #NHSHenrietta2018"
https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/985900498376118272
Lawrence is trying to communicate with his family and try to encourage them to share their stories too. Its important to let go but it's important to remember his mother too.
9) "I still believe my mother could have had a better treatment , maybe this could’ve kept her alive for longer! #NHSHenrietta2018"
https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/985902247904202752
Lawrence was replying to the statement that Dr. Howard Jones made considering that he had done everything he could in treating Henrietta and the rest is not his fault. Lawrence still believes that his mother deserved much better treatment.
10) "But there was a chance to treat her better. Everything could be better and my family wouldn't be so mad to the doctors and all the reporters. #NHSHenrietta2018"
https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/986036137637613569
The argument with Dr. Jones is still going on about Henrietta's treatment.
11")I was talking to the @rebecca_skloot the other day. "They're going to get rid of disease, they're a miracle" (p.161). I believe that my mother has suffered for a reason, for a better future! #NHSHenrietta2018"
17)"The conversation was helpful at that situation #NHSHenreitta2018"
https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/986287067171819520
Here Lawrence is talking about the conversation with the author with the book and how it actually helped him. Opening up can be hard for him, but it was a hard but pleasant in the end experience. The truth was told.
Collins, Laura. Son of Henrietta Lacks' Cells Are Most Important in Medical History.” Daily Mail Online, Associated Newspapers, 31 Mar. 2017, www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4365578/Henrietta-Lacks-son-ve-used-Oprah-HBO.html.Tweets from the Lawrence Lacks:
1) “Couple days ago was remembering my childhood in the beautiful city Clover. Ahh these were good days! #childhoodmemories #NHSHenrietta2018” https://twitter.com/lawerence_lacks/status/968612077903335424?s=21
For Lawrence his childhood was very important because he is the only one that remembers his mother from his family. Yes, remembering her for him is hard and painful, but the childhood memories are the best for him because he had big healthy family at that time.
2) “@Daylacks00 didn't want to talk to @rebecca_skloot at first about mother but I believe she deserves a chance! #NHSHenrietta2018” https://twitter.com/lawerence_lacks/status/985532367438778368?s=21
This tweet is the good example of the events on the books. I believe that this is how my character would have responded to the situation. Lawrence thinks that communication is the key.
3) “Give her a chance!”
This is response to the tweet of Skloot deserves a chance to talk to. Lacks can be very confused sometimes but I think he supports her.
4) "I remember my mom to suffer a lot, unfortunately the times were different and doctors were not very happy to help a black women. Good thing, I always had a family by my side. #NHSHenrietta2018"
https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/985535930042867717
My character have seen his mother suffer a lot and because he is the only child that remembers her that well, he wished that the treatment she had received would be better and than maybe she still would be alive. Racial segregation was a big problem at that time too, but times are gone there is noting they can do about it anymore.
5)"#NHSHenrietta2018 Every action you make has an outcome. I will never forget how i had to leave my younger siblings that had to suffer and all because I had a fake ID and was drafted into war"
https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/985539149141893125
Lawrence was not perfect either. He had to go to the war because he fracked ID and has no other chance. When he left his siblings were abused and suffered a lot. Lawrence was the oldest son and responsible for the family most of the time. He will always regret the choices he had made in the past because it affected the future of his family a lot too.
6)"People say that a person loves only once in his lifetime. There was one woman in my life that meant so much to me and still does! #NHSHenrietta2018"
https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/985540325954420736
Lawrence's wife was the biggest hero in the book. She was mercy and took Lawrence's siblings to live with her and also always had her own opinion, for example had a lot of disagreement with the author of the book. However, to the Lawrence she meant a lot and he always took care of her just like he did if his family.
7) "I was very honored to share some of my story to the Afro #NHSHenrietta2018"

Again, the Lawrence was the oldest in the family and the only one who remembered his mother well. I thought that for him sharing his story and reflection on the events was important, he would wanted to spread his experience into the world.

This is important moment in the book, because reader realizes that Lawrence hardly knows what cell is and for his family it was really hard to understand what was going on with Henrietta. Her oldest son still believes that the legacy that she has left even against her will is magic and miracle. Her cells gonna help millions and millions people all over the world. Lack of the education that Lawrence has shows up at that moment, he can't fight back for his mother's rights because he doesn't know how.

12) "Very helpful source, I am starting to understand the nature of the disease more and more #NHSHenrietta2018"

https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/986044014578274304
Following the previous tweet, Lawrence would be interested in finding out more information about anatomy and biology, especially cancer cells etc. So, he finds a web page with an explanation about nature of cancer in the simplest language possible.
13) "Had a conversation with Bobbette about my mother, she said, "I wouldn't even go there [Hopkins] to get my toenails now." (p.165) I understand that Hopkins treated black people very poorly but times changed, I believe that we have a chance to change history. #NHSHenrietta2018"
https://twitter.com/Lawerence_Lacks/status/986046495681105920
Bobbette, Lawrence's wife, has a very strong opinion about Hopkins. It was the hospital where Henrietta would be treated. Her opinion about that hospital is very negative, she believes that all doctors there experiment on black people. Lawrence and can watch how his wife's opinion is taking over his.
14) "All these false hopes that I got told that there might be a colony of my mother's cells and that she can even be alive! They all don't understand who hard it is to remember my mothers because i am the only one who remembers her clearly :( #NHSHenrietta2018"

Poor education shows how Lacks' family struggles, because they don't understand how cells work, they still believe that Henrietta might be alive and that's a lot of pressure on the Lawrence himself. Every memory about his mother is another pain, so when he gets these high and false at the same time hopes, he doesn't know what to believe.
15) "It’s always really hard to let go people. I’ve lost so many already and now it’s Deborah. She was fighting for the right thing to do until her last breath. She’s always gonna be my little sister #NHSHenreitta2018"

Deborah was a really importance piece of the family that Lawrence had. She needed a lot of care and she was so innocent and little. At the same time, her life experience was huge and Lawrence felt strong about it. She was the one that wanted to keep her mother alive even tho it would be in the paper form. Book is better than nothing. Losing family is always hard but loosing somebody like this is even harder.
16) "Celebrates these days always make something beautiful a mess. I was hoping a woman like her would understand the aspects of the black family struggles but they only portrayed them even worse. #NHSHenrietta2018"

Lawrence really didn't like it because he felt like everything was portrayed wrong. For person like him, that always gets attention of the public and pain from memories, its really hard not to judge the tv show and stars in it. Getting older is hard and everything for him seems even worse.
17)"The conversation was helpful at that situation #NHSHenreitta2018"
